About Our Team
Trish Doyle is Labor's Member for Blue Mountains in the NSW Parliament; a fierce champion of progressive politics, she has been the local MP since 2015 after a career of grassroots community activism and teaching. She is a proud member of the Australian Services Union and the NSW Teachers' Federation.
Together, our small but tight-knit Electorate Office team works hard to assist Trish in her role and provide essential support for our local community. Our team provides one-on-one support to constituents who need our advocacy, and works proactively to reach out to local organisations and key stakeholders.
We are a committed team who believe in fairness, equality, and respect. If you're looking for the opportunity to make a real difference and you share our progressive values, we want to hear from you!
About The Position
No two days are the same in an Electorate Office, so versatility and a can-do attitude are a must! As the direct link - or conduit - between NSW Parliament and the people of Blue Mountains, our office is regularly involved with advocating for our constituents directly with NSW Government Ministers, agencies, and with other political offices.
The key focus of this Electorate Officer position includes assisting with that direct advocacy, as well as working on office administration and organisation, media and digital media duties as needed, constituent outreach, and assisting Trish and the Senior Electorate Officer to prepare for Parliamentary sittings.
As well as dealing with constituent enquiries via email and phone, you may be asked to engage in speechwriting for Trish, draft briefing notes, prepare representations to Ministers, and other tasks as required.
General work hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm based out of our Electorate Office in Springwood; however, the nature of this role will sometimes necessitate working outside of these hours, including some weekends. To compensate for this requirement an annual All Incidence of Employment Allowance is paid as part of your remuneration package.
Our Selection Criteria
We're looking for someone with:
- Excellent computer skills, including digital filing skills. Experience with programs such as Campaign Central voter database software (or similar), Magenta-Linas/Umbraco website software (or similar), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite are all desirable. An understanding of how to effectively utilise social media platforms (such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential.
- Fantastic interpersonal communication, writing skills, and oral communication is essential. It is important for this role to be able to work alone on position-specific projects without the need for regular supervision, but to also be able to collaborate with the wider team on bigger projects that will require the input of the whole office.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines is essential for success in this role.
- A demonstrated commitment to the values of Trish and the Australian Labor Party in pursuing equitable and progressive outcomes for the community.
- Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive and strictly confidential information.
- A keen interest in and understanding of the Australian political system, especially NSW state politics and NSW parliamentary procedures and processes.
- A passion for our local community is key. Local candidates from the Blue Mountains region are highly desired, though candidates living elsewhere who have an interest in our community are also welcome to apply.
- Candidates with experience in office administration, event management, volunteer management, and community engagement are all strongly encouraged to apply.
