It was a pleasure to recently join the Blackheath Horticultural Society in belatedly celebrating its 2020 centenary. Blackheath's is the oldest continuing garden society in NSW, having held regular monthly meetings since its inception in 1920. The society has fostered and bolstered numerous community initiatives in the charming village of Blackheath. Their rich history is marked by an array of contributions, enhancing the local spirit. Showcasing the vibrant beauty of the area, they've hosted over 100 floral and craft exhibitions, spanning the invigorating seasons of summer and spring. The society has planted over 100 rhododendrons and azaleas in the Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park. They have extended financial aid to many regional charities, and planted numerous daffodils, trees and rhododendrons throughout the area. I'd like to acknowledge former president Laraine Graham, current president, Heather Pye and their fabulous team! The presentation of a bench to celebrate the founding of the Society, with the agreement of the Collier family, has been placed in the arcade for locals and tourists to take the opportunity to 'sit a while, rest a while'. On behalf of our community, I extend my gratitude to the Blackheath Horticultural Society, and congratulate them.
