I am honoured to recognise National Reconciliation Week 2025 with its powerful theme "Bridging Now to Next." Last Sunday I had the privilege of attending the Voices for Reconciliation: Louder Than Ever event in Lawson where I purchased a remarkable new book entitled Elders: Blue Mountains Aboriginal Elders - Stories From Our Hearts. This book shares stories directly of our Mountain's Elders who are true treasures of our First Nations' culture and wisdom. These stories carry the experiences of generations, the lessons learned and traditions passed down through time. They connect us deeply to their roots, reminding us of our history and the values that should guide us every day. Each story—whether it speaks of challenges, triumphs or everyday moments—inspires, teaches and brings us together. By listening and learning from these voices, we nurture a sense of belonging and continuity that strengthens the fabric of our community.
