Ms TRISH DOYLE (Blue Mountains) (18:04): Merle Hansard is a member of the Rotary Club of the Central Blue Mountains garden crew, which maintains the garden at the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital. The garden was established in 2005 to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Rotary, and it has continued to provide a calm and beautiful place for palliative care and rehab patients to spend their time and for visitors to enjoy. Its continued beauty today is due in part to Merle's devoted love and care. She has dedicated the past 12 years to actively maintaining the garden, purely out of kindness and compassion for people who are going through a difficult time. Merle and the crew tirelessly arrive every Monday, weather permitting, to clean, sweep, mulch, plant, mow and cut edges. The result is a gift that brightens the day of the hospital patients, time and again. I am proud to acknowledge Merle and her achievements today. I thank her for her dedication to the welfare of others. She is a bright star in our community. I also congratulate Merle on her recent Blue Mountains City Council seniors award. It is well-deserved recognition.
