I acknowledge one of my constituents, Merryl Watkins of Blaxland. For many years, I have admired Merryl's extraordinary wildlife photography on social media, and I was recently delighted when she gave me a copy of her beautiful book, A Wander on the Wild Side: Conversations with Blue Mountains Wildlife. I also enjoyed reading more about her remarkable story in the Lower Blue Mountains Local News. During the COVID lockdowns, when many people were feeling isolated and uncertain, Merryl undertook a simple but powerful act of kindness. Every day for a year, she shared a new photograph of a bird, reminding people to look up, slow down and find joy in the natural world around them. Her images captured not only the beauty of our native wildlife, but also their character and spirit. In doing so, she brought comfort to many people during a difficult time and helped raise awareness of the importance of protecting our precious local environment. The Blue Mountains is home to some of the most extraordinary wildlife in the world, and Merryl has a unique gift for helping us see it with fresh eyes. I thank Merryl for her generosity and creativity and recognise her today.
