I was honoured to join the National Parks and Wildlife Service's staff memorial service on 31 July at George Phillips Lookout in Blackheath in Blue Mountains National Park. It was a sombre but beautiful service that recognised all staff members who lost their lives in the line of duty. The master of ceremonies was Cameron Chaffey, director of the fire and incident operations branch. Uncle Chris Tobin and Aunty Sharyn Halls welcomed us to country, and the memorial address was provided by our good Minister the Hon. Penny Sharpe from the other place. Jack Fry, a ranger from the Protected Area Workers Association, read the poem Ranger Remembrance by John Williams, with James Coombs then finishing off, with the pipe band, with Flowers of the Forest. Vale, those we have lost.
