Yesterday I had the great honour of presenting a Community Service Award to an amazing man, Peter Genellos. Peter was nominated for this award by his beautiful wife, Marea, who, sadly, passed away less than two months ago. This community recognition statement is dedicated to both Peter and Marea, to acknowledge them as individuals and to pay homage to the incredible union they shared. I believe we all hope to meet that special someone in our lifetime—the person who sees us at our best and at our worst, makes us laugh and makes us cry; the person who inspires us to spread our wings, explore and be curious; but the person who joins us when we want to hide from the outside world, and the person who feels like home. That is what Peter and Marea had.

Marea was taken too soon; there is no doubt about that. I know how much you miss her, Peter, and that the loss you feel is immeasurable. This statement today is to remind you of the love and support that surrounds you always. You are a wonderful human being, Peter, and Marea was too.
