Community groups in the Blue Mountains can now apply for a share of $400,000 in funding to promote safer road use.

The NSW Government’s Community Road Safety Grants program empowers communities to address road safety on a local level, leading and delivering initiatives that make a positive impact.

From supplying vulnerable families with safe children’s car seats, to road rule education for newly-arrived refugees, grassroots community groups can submit proposals for initiatives that will make a difference locally.

Blue Mountains MP Trish Doyle said the grant program is a great opportunity to think outside the box to make our roads safer for everyone.

“I strongly encourage local organisations and groups the Blue Mountains to apply for the Community Road Safety Grants - you know our community best and can ensure we are putting the money to good use in our region,” Ms Doyle said.

“We must continue doing everything we can to save lives on our local roads and across the state, and these grants will be invaluable to driving lives lost towards zero.”

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting these grassroots efforts, ensuring that every community has the tools and resources needed to keep their roads safe,” Ms Doyle said.

“This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact, and I strongly encourage our local community organisations to apply.”

Projects in NSW that have received funding in the past include a campaign to generate awareness of cyclists at roundabouts and intersections in Bathurst; providing driving lessons, car maintenance and repairs for vulnerable women and youth subject to domestic and family violence in Port Stephens; and providing a courtesy bus service of an evening in Gulgong as a safe alternative to drink driving.

The Community Road Safety Grants program supports not-for-profit community groups, implementing local projects that align with the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan. Since its inception in 2015, the program has delivered over 200 projects worth more than $3 million, benefiting communities across NSW.

Grants of up to $5000 and up to $30,000 are available, and applications close at 4pm on Monday, September 16, 2024.
