Blue Mountains passengers will have the opportunity to join the first Mariyung service on the Blue Mountains Line when it rolls out of Lithgow Station on Monday, 13 October 2025.
The first Mariyung passenger service will stop at most stations along the Blue Mountains Line including Leura, Katoomba, Blackheath and Springwood, on its way to Central Station. The inaugural journey will mark the latest phase in the rollout of the new intercity Mariyung fleet delivering improved comfort, convenience and safety for train travelers.
The Mariyung fleet of trains has more spacious and comfortable two-by-two seating, a much quieter journey with modern air-conditioning, dedicated spaces for luggage, prams, bicycles and wheelchairs, as well as enhanced safety and improved accessibility.
The seating also includes tray tables, arm rests, high seat backs and charging ports for mobile devices, on-board digital information screens are easier to read, and CCTV throughout the new trains will enhance the safety and security of passengers and staff and help deter anti-social and criminal activity.
The Mariyung first entered service on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line on December 3 last year and this is the second phase of the rollout of the fleet.
Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle said:
“The Blue Mountains community have long awaited the introduction of the Mariyung train and are excited to experience many of the features on offer! I’m looking forward to joining commuters, particularly one very keen local, Eddie - who uses a wheelchair, on the Fleet’s first passenger service along the Blue Mountains line.
“I thank commuters for their patience and the railway workers who insisted on safety measures being addressed before the train entered service.
“Many long-distance travellers will miss the comfortable V-set’s reversible seating but know that accessibility and connectivity features on the Mariyung fleet are necessary and welcomed. Above all, commuters want reliability and punctuality with train services, and I trust that is what this new era of train travel across the network will provide.”
