A Minns Labor Government will review the Blue Mountains Line train timetable, along with the Sydney Metropolitan Network and the wider NSW Train network to deliver more express services and better transport connections for local commuters.
As part of this review, a Labor Government would consider scheduling a shuttle service to provide new, additional train services operating between Mount Victoria and Penrith to bolster public transport options within the Blue Mountains.
Passengers serviced by the Blue Mountains Line have been dealing with infrequent and often inadequate train services for many years. The line is particularly vulnerable to weather events and can be easily disrupted by issues on the freight network.”
Labor’s timetable review will assess the real needs for more train services and will use the surplus capacity on the network brought about by the new metro and the rollout of the New Intercity Fleet to deliver more services across the network.
The review will also deal with how to deliver the transport services of the future given that work patterns and travel patterns have permanently shifted.
This will include looking at how to flatten the peak on public transport and better utilise the transport infrastructure that we have, as well as providing more frequent services all day rather than only during the traditional morning and evening peaks.
Quotes attributable to Jo Haylen MP Shadow Minister for Transport:
“NSW Labor is committed to making public transport work and work better for the people of the Blue Mountains. At present, we know services are infrequent and inadequate.”
“Labor has already committed to reviewing timetables across the Sydney Metropolitan Network and the wider NSW Trains network.
“Additional services, including between Mount Victoria and Penrith, would absolutely be considered as part of that review.”
Quotes attributable to Trish Doyle MP Labor Member for Blue Mountains:
“The Blue Mountains is a community that commutes, but more and more people want the option to avoid gridlock, volatile petrol prices and skyrocketing tolls on the M4 and WestConnex."
“To deliver that choice, our train services need to be more frequent, not just for passengers commuting to work but for people travelling from place to place within the Mountains.”
“Intra-Mountains public transport has been seriously lacking for many years, and the post-COVID population growth we've seen has made that worse. That's why we want to sit down and assess the Mountains' transport needs with an open mind and help people who want to use public transport more often with services that meet their needs and expectations.”
