NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has visited the Blue Mountains on Sunday April 19 to launch Trish Doyle’s campaign for re-election in 2027.
More than 100 people gathered in Lawson at the Mechanics Institute for the event, which doubled as a chance to quiz the Treasurer about the upcoming June Budget.
The crowd was welcomed by Darug and Gundungurra Elder Aunty Carol Cooper. The event was moderated by Leura local and Blue Mountains City Councillor Dr Suzanne Jamieson.
Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle MP said: “I was so pleased to have the Treasurer take the time on a Sunday afternoon to visit, launch my campaign and most importantly listen to the concerns of local Mountains residents.”
The event attracted Labor branch members and supporters who asked the Treasurer about the process of allocating funds with a particular focus on issues important to Blue Mountains locals.
Questions were put to the Treasurer without notice for more than an hour, ranging from issues about Blue Mountains Hospital and the environment, to the historic nurses and midwives historic pay rise and the need for more funding for community services and emergency services.
“It’s always such a tough job wrangling the Budget with so many competing priorities and he sure did hear what we think is important,” Ms Doyle said.
“The community and I got in his ear again about the need for funding for a new hospital, as our current hospital in Katoomba is no longer fit-for-purpose.”
Treasurer Daniel Mookhey told the standing room only crowd that he was “really pleased to be here in Lawson to support Trish” and officially launch her campaign.
“Trish is a delightful person in caucus. Even when she is coming for you, she does it with a smile,” he said laughing.
“Trish is a big reason why our government is protecting national parks ... net zero ... schools and hospitals. Trish is running a relentless campaign [on Blue Mountains Hospital] and it’s been noticed; it’s on the radar of the government.”
