Four Blue Mountains seniors were awarded for their work in the local community today.

As part of the NSW Seniors Festival 2026, Blue Mountains MP Trish Doyle recognised the valuable contributions of four seniors to the Blue Mountains community.

Jim Watson from Lawson was awarded for his involvement in Clean Up Australia Day and his dedication to improving men’s mental health through his involvement in the Men’s Shed.

“Jim is a true community-minded gem and is to be congratulated for his dedication to the Mid-Mountains community,” Ms Doyle said.

Heather Gwilliam’s tireless work in supporting the Blue Mountains community during fires and floods through her work with Gateway Family Services and her ongoing work with Rotary, was also recognised.

“Heather is a compassionate human who is an inspiration to us all,” Ms Doyle said of the Mt Riverview resident.

Rounding out the awards for the Lower Mountains, was Glenbrook’s Suzie Wright. She was awarded for her commitment to the environment as a volunteer at Glenbrook Native Plant Nursery and Landcare.

“Suzie nurtures our local plants and works to protect critically endangered species in the Blue Mountains,” Ms Doyle said.

In the Upper Mountains, Noel Daly from Blackheath has been recognised for five decades serving the community as a Justice of the Peace.

“Noel has been providing JP services for 50 years, which is an incredible achievement. JPs provide such an important and valuable service to our community,” Ms Doyle said.

“I sincerely thank all our seniors for their valuable contributions to our community”.

The awards are among a range of exciting events taking place across the state as part of the NSW Seniors Festival 2026, which celebrates older people and helps keep them active and engaged with their community.

Minister for Seniors Jodie Harrison said the festival, now in its 68th year, was a key initiative in the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting seniors.

“As part of the festival there are almost 50 NSW Government-run and sponsored events happening across the state designed specifically for our older community members,” Ms Harrison said.

“On top of this, there are dozens more events organised by councils and other organisations, ranging across sports, culture, nature and food, so there is plenty on offer for everyone.

“The NSW Government is committed and continuing to realise our vision of creating a state where seniors reap the benefits of living longer, more active lives.”
