TRANSPORT SUPPORTING BLUE MOUNTAINS AND CENTRAL WEST
WITH ADDITIONAL COACH AND TRAIN SERVICES

Transport for NSW (Transport) is running temporary additional train services and
free coach services to support communities impacted by the extended closure of a
section of the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass.
The extra services will boost public transport options for people travelling to and
from the Central West and Blue Mountains following the extended closure of the
road at Mitchell’s Causeway.
Chief Executive NSW Trainlink, Roger Weeks said all arms of Transport are working
together to provide the added services.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure people living, working and travelling in
the Central West and Blue Mountains stay connected during this time,” Mr Weeks
said.
“From today, NSW TrainLink has two, fully accessible coaches, running 13 free turnup-and-go services daily between Bathurst and Katoomba.
“These free services will travel in both directions, and stop at Katoomba, Mt
Victoria, Lithgow and Bathurst train stations.
“Chifley Road to and from Lithgow is seeing a sharp increase in traffic demand, so
we are encouraging people to choose public transport where possible and use
these free extra coach services for a more relaxing ride, and to help ease
congestion on the route.”
Chief Executive Sydney Trains Matt Longland said on Sunday two additional train
services will depart Bathurst at 11:12am and 3:52pm to Mount Victoria/Lithgow and
with additional return services departing Lithgow at 9:03am and 1:35pm.
“From tomorrow, Sydney Trains will base an additional Endeavour train set in the
Blue Mountains, providing a shuttle service between Bathurst and Mount Victoria,”
Mr Longland said.
“That’s four extra trip options on Sunday, and further timetable changes are being
developed to provide even more additional local services, which we will be sharing
as soon as possible.

“For people keen to plan their weekday commutes, we’ll have details around
additional weekday services available in Trip Planner by Sunday morning, so head
to the site and see how these services might be able to benefit you.
“We know this is a challenging time for people and businesses, but we are doing our
best to support those who have been impacted.”
With the Mitchell’s Causeway closure to be in place for a minimum of three months,
Transport is asking motorists to plan their journeys and expect heavier traffic and
delays, particularly during peak periods and on weekends.
