Tonight I recognise and celebrate the incredible efforts of Dragons Abreast Blue Mountains, which held its annual "turn the lake pink" event on Saturday 18 October. This vibrant and meaningful occasion took place on the edge of Wentworth Falls Lake. It was a wonderful show of community spirit, support and awareness for those affected by, living with or recovering from breast cancer.

This event, which forms part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is aimed at raising awareness for this important cause and supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia. Dragons Abreast Blue Mountains, a group made up of passionate dragon-boaters who are also breast cancer survivors, has long been at the forefront of raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and care. Their dedication is truly inspiring. Once a month, these good women paddle together in a demonstration of solidarity and hope. It is a sight to behold and a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the importance of community support when facing health challenges.

At the group's pink morning tea, everyone enjoyed delicious treats, great conversation and the warmth of a community united for a cause that affects so many Australians. Every dollar raised at the event was donated directly to Breast Cancer Network Australia, ensuring that all funds go to vital services and programs for those impacted by breast cancer. I commend the organisers, volunteers and participants for their outstanding contribution to the cause. The event is a testament to the power of action. I am proud to represent a community that rallies together to make a difference. I particularly acknowledge the president, Janette Fry, and her hubby, Andrew Renson. They are two of my favourite people in our extraordinary community. They will say, "Don't single us out. It's a team effort." It is absolutely a team effort, yet their relentless efforts for that particular organisation should be heralded.

I thank Caroline Gardner from the Country Women's Association Leura Evening branch. It was great to be joined by the deputy mayor, Councillor Hollywood, and Councillor Suzie van Opdorp, who is a huge supporter of women's health matters. My comrade Deb Smith from Blue Mountains Unions and Community was also in attendance. Many people gathered and made it a great event. I thank everyone involved in making "turn the lake pink" such a success. Dragons Abreast Blue Mountains is a formidable group. In the face of real, raw vulnerability, its members lean into their strengths and each other. Dream. Encourage. Inspire.
